Homemade lemonade and carrot cake at Byfords

If you’re looking for somewhere to go in Norfolk this weekend, but want to make sure there’s shelter from the rain, then Holt in North Norfolk is a good place to start.

This little village is crammed with quirky independent shops and eateries. You can wander round galleries and shops for hours before checking out the food hall at Bakers and Larners. It seems to stock everything, including my beloved marshmallow Fluff!

When your feet get sore stop off at Byfords for a sandwich and a cup of tea. Byfords is a real favourite of mine, serving great food all day long.

Their cakes are to die for, and I never leave without buying some – it’s always moist and served in generous portions. They go down a treat with a pot of tea or some homemade lemonade (see right). If you don’t have time to eat it there, you can buy some to take home, along with a range of deli products.

From Norwich

Holt is located on the A148, heading for Cromer.

Hi, I'm Lucy. I've lived in Norfolk since 2001 and in that time I've grown to love this fine county. From the city of Norwich, to the countryside villages and sweeping coastline, there's so much to explore and hope to share my experiences with you here.
