Here’s a confession: I have been blessed/cursed with ridiculously curly hair. I swing between the two loving it and hating literally depending on the weather.
However, for the most part, I hate it. The main reason being that it takes me years to find a hairdresser that’s trained to cut it. Because my hair is straight when wet, it obviously dries in a different shape, which has to be taken into consideration when snipping away. Unfortunately many hairdressers don’t seem to understand that, which results in unflattering, chunky layers.
So, many moons ago, when I asked for recommendations on Twitter, Da Vinci Haircutters in Norwich was suggested. And I haven’t been anywhere else since.
Jo, the senior stylist and owner, helped me get the condition back after an absolutely dreadful stylist ruined my hair. She listens closely to my needs and always gives me what I want.
Low maintenance styling
Not only is my hair curly, but it’s really thick too, but Jo always cuts the weight out, so that the curls bounce back up and it dries more quickly. She also suggests colours that are low maintenance because I absolutely detest having highlights put through my hair (they take too long to do and I get bored quickly).
The salon also uses Pureology products, which are sulphate free, vegan and smell divine. The mint conditioner makes my scalp tingle, which I know is a silly reason to go to a hairdressers, but I like it!
And I know this will sound frivolous, but although it’s quite expensive (roughly £52 for roots painting, cut and blow dry), it is worthwhile because it makes me feel good. Yes, I’m probably vain, but it’s my main concession to beauty.
