There are lots of great shops in Norwich, but if I had to pick a list of my favourites, Jarrold would definitely be on it. For one thing, it sells MAC cosmetics, which is enough to make me go weak at the knees! Not only that, but it also stocks Penhaligon fragrance and Creme de la Mer skin care – two brands that would be otherwise unavailable in this fine city.
That’s the great thing about Jarrold – it’s a bit different to the other department stores and has far more character as a result.
Oh, and as a stationery lover, I can think of nothing better than buying a shiny new notebook or two, and Jarrold stock hundreds of different types, including designs by Orla Kiely and Emma Bridgewater. I could literally spend hours just mooning over them if I had the time!
Great clothing in Norwich
When I first moved to Norfolk, nearly a decade ago, I was sometimes mean about Jarrold; as a teenager I thought it was a bit twee, but as I’ve grown up I’ve realised that they stock some great clothing brands, like Joules and Desigual. The prices may be slightly higher than some of the other shops in Norwich, but everything is good quality and the sales assistants are very knowledgeable.
And if you’re looking for children’s toys for Christmas, I would recommend checking their toy area. It sells something for everyone (including big kids!), so it’s definitely worth having a good look around (and putting a limit on your credit card!).
The food section is also incredible, selling delicacies and wines from East Anglia and beyond. What I wouldn’t give for a Jarrold Christmas hamper…
