Having visited Wright’s on Bank Plain several times since it opened in 2023, I’ve become a regular at the café in the heart of Norwich. So it’s high time that I wrote a short review of my experiences and explain why I keep going back for more.
To kick off, Wright’s has a warm ambience with a relaxed, welcoming vibe that’s comfortably elegant without being intimidating. The marble-topped tables are complemented by greenery, from the seats to the house plants and dried flowers. There’s also a fair amount of taxidermy animals dotted about the place, which adds a little quirkiness to the whole affair.
Located on the corner of Bank Plain and White Lion Street in Norwich, the glass frontage not only lets in lots of light, but a seat at the window is a great location for a spot of people-watching as they go about their business.
The menu at Wright’s, Norwich
On my first couple of visits to Wright’s in Norwich, I opted for breakfast tea, which comes in a huge pot. I think I got at least three cups out of it, so it lasted ages!
But when a friend suggested trying the maple mocha, I was blown away.
I’m not normally one for sweet coffee, but the maple mocha is divine.
It is smooth and rich, with the flavour of the maple syrup complimenting the coffee. I have mine with oat milk but you can it with regular milk and it’s delicious. Just remember to give it a stir if it’s been sitting for a while. The syrup tends to settle and the last few mouthfuls are very sweet!
I’m also a big fan of their toasties, all of which are priced at around £8.50 and make a filling meal all on their own.
My personal favourite is the Reuben. Packed with salt beef, sauerkraut, gherkins, Russian dressing and Emmental, the fresh white bread is buttered before being toasted. It is properly naughty and makes my mouth water just thinking about it!
That said I did get adventurous and try something different on my last visit. I opted for the truffle mushroom toastie, which was filled with gooey cheese, mushrooms and spinach. It didn’t hit the spot quite like the Reuben (there’s something about salt beef!) but it was really tasty and enjoyable.
I should also mention that I once ordered a side of truffle fries to go with my toastie. While they were moreish and tasty, I couldn’t finish them because it was just too much food. I have a healthy appetite but it was more than me and my lunchtime companion could get through!
Of course, the menu does feature more than just toasties. They do serve loaded fries, full meals, cakes and specials but I’m working my way through the toasties. I’m saving other options for future visits – keep your eyes peeled for an updated review.
Before wrapping up, I should add the service is always good, too. There’s never a long wait for food and it’s always served with a smile.
