Whether you’re a committed hiker, weekend wanderer, a beachcomber or you just fancy a gentle hour outdoors, Norfolk has a walk for you. With big skies, ever-changing coastlines and peaceful countryside, it’s one of the best counties for walking in the UK.
Here are some of my favourite Norfolk walks – including a few lesser-known spots – that are perfect for fresh air, a bit of exercise and a reminder of just how lovely this county can be.
I’ll keep adding more walks to this list over time, so feel free to bookmark or share your favourites with me too!
Marston Marshes, Norwich

Length: Circa 2.5 miles
Type: Circular | Riverside | Marshland
Why I love it: It’s a peaceful pocket of natural beauty tucked away in Norwich’s southern edge. Swans, herons and dragonflies are regulars – and it’s a great way to experience Norfolk walking without straying far from Norwich.
Tips: It can get boggy in winter so take wellies. Read my full article about on Marston Marshes.
Blickling Estate

Length: Various routes from 1 to 8 miles
Type: Woodland | Parkland | Circular
Why I love it: Peaceful tracks through ancient woodland, lakeside views and one of Norfolk’s most impressive stately homes.
Tips: It’s popular at weekends so arrive early to get a parking space. Read my review of Blickling Hall.
Holkham to Wells-next-the-Sea

Length: Around 4 miles
Type: Linear | Beach | Pinewoods
Why I love it: It’s a classic North Norfolk walk with wide sands, pine-sheltered trails and a breezy stretch along the beach.
Tips: You can walk one way and catch the Coastliner bus back.
Wymondham Abbey and River Tiffey

Length: Around 3 miles
Type: Town and countryside | Circular Walk
Why I love it: Historic buildings and a gentle riverside path – ideal if you’re looking for short walks in Norfolk with plenty of charm.
Tips: Combine with lunch in Wymondham town centre for a day out.
Whitlingham Country Park

Length: Around 2–5 miles
Type: Lakeside | Woodland | Circular
Why I love it: A Norfolk circular walk with a view – right on the edge of Norwich. Flat paths make it pram- and wheelchair-friendly.
Tips: There’s plenty of parking and a lovely cafe where you can enjoy a well-deserved cuppa when you’re done.
Surlingham

Length: Approx. 3–5 miles (various routes)
Type: Riverside / marsh / woodland | Circular walk options available
Why I love it: This Norfolk Broads walk is peaceful, varied and full of interest. You’ve got river views, reedbeds, grazing meadows and even a secret little church ruin tucked into the landscape. Depending on your route, you might spot grebes, herons or even otters.
Tips: Park at Surlingham church or the Ferry House pub (if you’re stopping for a drink or bite). The walk can be extended through Wheatfen Nature Reserve or along the Wherryman’s Way.
