Cupcakes at Hummingbird Bakery

This post has nothing to do with Norfolk at all, and for that I will apologise in advance, but I just have to get this off my chest.

That’s because this Saturday I ventured out of the Fine City of Norwich to meet some friends in the Big Smoke – and we have something of a tradition.

That tradition is a visit to the Hummingbird Bakery.

I’m not quite sure how this obsession began, maybe it was looking at their website or the cookbook, but either way we’re hooked.

This time our search for cake took us to their new branch, which has just opened on Frying Pan Alley (I love the name) near Spitalfields Market, and it’s just as good as the others.

Making my mind up

I love everything about their tiny little shops, from the adorable bird covered decor to the individual cupcake carry cases and the cake itself.

This weekend (after an eternity of deliberation) I settled on the mango cupcake, which is part of the seasonal collection and is only available on Saturdays.

It was truly delicious, with smooth mango flavoured butter cream, light vanilla sponge, a mango jam centre and dried mango to top it off.
I think i’m in love.

Yes, it is a wee bit pricey at £2.95 to take out, but it tasted so good I savoured it and didn’t have anything else that afternoon!

From previous visits, I can also confirm that the carrot cake is amazing – but the slice I had was so huge I couldn’t finish it!

There are four branches of Hummingbird Bakery in London. To find out more, visit their website.

Lucy

Hi, I'm Lucy. I've lived in Norfolk since 2001 and in that time I've grown to love this fine county. From the city of Norwich, to the countryside villages and sweeping coastline, there's so much to explore and hope to share my experiences with you here.
