You should have realised by now that I love cake and I love anything retro – which is why I was obliged to visit Biddy’s Tea Room in Norwich last week.
Located above what used to be Perfect Pad in Lower Goat Lane, stepping into Biddy’s is like stepping into a a wartime sitting room.
It’s filled with faded armchairs, wooden tables and cake stands. A gramophone plays retro tunes in the corner and the menus are hidden away inside book covers. What more could I want?
Oh yes, the tea! You get a beautiful pot, accompanied by pretty little china cups, saucers and a jug of milk.
They have a huge selection of cakes to choose from too, including cupcakes, fruit cakes and chocolate cake, all of which are handmade and beautifully moist. I opted for the apple crumble cake, and it was so good, I could happily eat it for every meal!
My fellow lady what lunches tried Biddy’s afternoon tea, which comes with a choice of sandwiches, crisps, tea and cake for £6.50 – it’s actually too much for one person to eat alone, so it’s great value.
I guess my favourite thing about it is the atmosphere though. It’s so cosy and welcoming and the staff couldn’t be more friendly. I can’t recommend it highly enough – you should definitely visit!
