Jane Eyre at the Book Hive
(apologies for image quality!)

The number of bookshops in Norwich has seen a sharp decline in recent years; it seems that Waterstones has taken over the high street since Ottakers closed down and Borders succumbed to the credit crunch. That’s why I was pleased to discover a lovely new store called the Book Hive.

It’s a higgledy piggledy independent shop, which feels friendly and has a personality. The staff certainly help with this – answering any questions that you may have.

I was also relieved to find that it doesn’t have too many books crammed into it. Odd as it sounds, I find this a happier shopping experience – I know where to start looking and can safely wander round the store without walking into a table of ‘Great Summer Reads’. I particularly liked this edition of Jane Eyre (right), which I had only ever seen online.

As someone that loves wasting time and money in bookshops, the Book Hive is a dream come true!

Lucy

Hi, I'm Lucy. I've lived in Norfolk since 2001 and in that time I've grown to love this fine county. From the city of Norwich, to the countryside villages and sweeping coastline, there's so much to explore and hope to share my experiences with you here.
