Keeping fit: Zumba in Norwich

Zumba – Steve Tolcher

As some of you may be aware, my New Year’s Resolution for 2011 was to keep fit.

As is inevitable, I have pretty much failed to do this and now feel a bit rubbish. So in attempt to remedy this state of affairs, I have joined two Zumba classes in Norwich. Yep, that’s right, 2…

It seems to be the current trend and nearly every gym and school is holding classes both during the day and evening. I thought I’d make the most of it and go to a couple.

Blending a mix of Latin dance steps with energetic rhythms, it certainly gets your pulse racing and your heart thumping. But unlike other fitness classes, Zumba is actually fun – maybe it’s because you feel a bit silly or have no coordination, but it’s a laugh and upbeat.

Women of all ages seem to be taking part too, because you can work as hard as you like and there are low impact routines that are kinder to the joints than step aerobics or circuit training too.

Although the classes aren’t cheap (around £5 for an hour), some places offer the first class free – while deals occasionally appear on Groupon.

I would recommend Zumba if you’re looking for a hard but fun workout with your friends.
